Our PetitionSummary of AimSave Keys Hall Full Text of PetitionWe have launched a campaign to save Keys Hall and keep it available for community use. We have taken this action because the Conservative administration running Brentwood Borough Council believe that Keys Hall is now surplus to leisure and recreation requirements and have identified the site for re-development. The Liberal Democrats are totally against this Conservative proposal. The matter was discussed at the Borough Council's Policy Panel on Wednesday 14th March and the Conservatives not only railroaded the item through 9 votes to 2 but also restricted Liberal Democrat opposition members from speaking on the issue. So much for local democracy! As you may have read in the local papers, many users of Keys Hall are concerned that they will not be able to be relocated to the Duchess of Kent building on the Clements Park development because that Hall does not meet their requirements. We share these concerns and are also worried that there is going to be a general shortage of Community Halls across the Borough following the news that the agreement allowing the public to use the Shenfield Sports Centre has now come to an end. We believe that if enough local people speak up on this issue and demand that Keys Hall is retained for community use then the Conservatives will have to listen. If you share our view please sign the petition below.
