General Election NewsCllr David Kendall, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
David Kendall has lived in Brentwood for over 20 years and has been a councillor for most of that time. He is Lib Dem group leader and official leader of the opposition on Brentwood Borough Council. He represented Brentwood West for 16 years and has represented Pilgrims Hatch since 2007, where he gained a seat from the Tories in a by-election by 61 votes, and then was returned in 2008 with an increased majority of 382. Over the last 20 years, David has been involved in campaigns across Brentwood & Ongar to get better public transport and local health services. He has campaigned to save an old people's home and championed the cause of local pensioners. Recently he has fought to get disabled parking fees scrapped in Brentwood's country parks and to review car parking charges across Brentwood, stood firm with residents against the William Hunter Way development, fought to save two popular community halls and has been involved in a successful campaign to save a local post office threatened with closure. As opposition leader, David and his team of councillors have been holding the Conservative administration running Brentwood Council to account. David is also an active member of Brentwood Chamber of Commerce and a key committee member of the Brentwood Bus and Rail Users Association. David won a County Council seat from the Conservatives in June 2009, winning the Brentwood South Division, and has been holding the Conservatives-controlled county council to account on issues such as waste management, support for local businesses and broadband for rural areas. Shortly after his election, he was pleased that the campaign to get a Sunday bus service in Brentwood South, which he had been integral to over the last few years, was successful. David was born in Barnet and is a lifelong Watford FC fan. He has been a member of the Liberal Party (later Liberal Democrats) since 1975. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his 10-year old son Jack, following Watford, enjoys music, watching sports and going to the cinema. David's partner is Cllr Karen Chilvers, fellow Brentwood borough councillor. David was educated at William Penn Comprehensive School in Hertforshire and later at Havering Technical College. After a successful career in sales, reaching the position of Sales Director for Lee Cooper, he now owns and operates his own carpet and upholstery cleaning business in Brentwood. He has gained a lot of experience and knowledge from being the agent at the 1997 General Election and the Parliamentary Candidate in 2001 (against Martin Bell). David's latest election communicatin.
