Brentwood NorthPhilip Mynott
Philip Mynott, standing in Brentwood North, is well known as an active member of The Swan Paddock Residents' Association and campaigner since 2006 against The William Hunter Way development, collecting High Street signatures and speaking in the debates. Professionally, he is a local artist, born in Billericay and living in Western Road for 16 years. Philip passionately believes that a catalogue of incompetent decisions by the Council is destroying Brentwood, as it repeatedly refuses to consult local people or businesses and, therefore, benefit from their knowledge. He is already actively involved with residents keen to preserve green spaces at Weald Road ("the hedge") and Mayfield Gardens, and on Western Avenue and Ongar Road speeding and safety issues. He is deeply concerned that continued Tory control will simply mean further over-development, traffic congestion on main and minor roads and loss of local trade. Philip can be contacted by email at philip.mynott@brentwood-ongarlibdems.org.uk, by post at 70 Western Road, Brentwood CM14 4SS or by phone on 01277 261 585. He also stood as the parliamentary candidate for Braintree in 1997 and North Essex in 2001. Brentwood WestNigel Clarke
Nigel, a Vidal Sassoon trained hair stylist, owns "The Hair Company" in Crown Street and is our candidate for Brentwood West. He is a strong voice for the people of Brentwood and has been a part of many Liberal Democrat campaigns over the last two years including the "Bring Back the White Hart" campaign, a battle to get 20mph zones enforced, fighting for fairer car parking charges, to stop the introduction of Town Hall Car Park at weekends, for better consultation on the William Hunter Way development, for local businesses, to slow down the traffic on the London Road and to keep the last council run cricket pitch in use. Nigel is always fighting for the local independent traders. Along with Cllr Karen Chilvers (who he hopes to be elected alongside), he recently committed to doing 75% of his shopping in Brentwood during the High Street works and they won praise from many local retailers who were struggling with the works and the recession. Nigel has three daughters and his hobbies include campaigning for the Liberal Democrats, playing for and managing Chignal Smealey cricket team, going to the gym, playing the guitar and gourmet cooking. He is also Phoenix 98 FM's cricket correspondent and co-hosts a show on Wednesday evenings. Jackie Anslow has lived in the Brentwood area for over forty years - spending 17 years of that time in Ingatestone. Both of her sons were educated at Brentwood Schools and she has spent most of her career as a social worker for children and their families in Essex. Jackie was first introduced to the voluntary sector in the 1970's when she began to drive people with sight problems to their weekly club and later, in the 1980's, assisted teaching Yoga to people with MS. She stood as a candidate in 1998, taking the late Liz Bottomley's seat, which she held for three years. During that time, Jackie was a Council Representative on the Brentwood Arts Council and RELATE: Since that date, she has remained associated with these two charities, being the Chair of Brentwood Arts and a Trustee for Essex/North Herts Relate. Until her retirement in 2007, Jackie had spent the last six years of her social work career in the fostering sector, working closely with the inner London boroughs. She still maintains a connection with this area of work by sitting on a panel which selects and reviews foster carers. She has always been passionate about supporting vulnerable people and children have been the main focus of her work. She is especially heartened to see that the LIB DEMS are targeting young children with the Pupil Premium, aimed at reducing disadvantage in the places where most little ones can be expected to attend, i.e., their schools. Jackie has been involved in the local social/political scene for many years and in many guises, has kept up this association via her charity work and still feels able to represent her residents' interests with insight and integrity.
