From the last party conference before the general election Cllr David Kendall, parliamentary spokesman for Brentwood & Ongar, praised Dr Vince Cable MP, Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor, for his speech on the economy.

David said:

"Vince pointed out that the Liberal Democrats have been consistently correct on the economy. We warned of the dangers and we led the debate when the crisis came. We told Gordon Brown to curb the excess profits of banks which were dependent on a taxpayer guarantee.

"Liberal Democrats also warned Labour and the Conservatives that they were in denial about the build up of household debt and the bubble in property prices but neither took any notice."

"Furthermore, ten years ago, Lib Dems fought the demutualisation of building societies: a consequence of Conservative legislation which led to the disasters of Northern Rock, Bradford and Bingley and HBOS.

"It's becoming clear to many voters that only the Liberal Democrats have a clear vision for the future of the British economy.
