Eric Pickles MP asked to help call in William Hunter Way application7.24.35pm GMT Fri 20th Mar 2009
The leader and deputy leader of Brentwood's Liberal Democrats have written to Eric Pickles MP regarding the recent planning decision for a Cinema/Retail/Multi Storey Car Park development in William Hunter Way. Whilst it seems Mr Pickles is in favour of the application, many Brentwood constituents are not. Brentwood Lib Dem councillors have already written to Go East asking for the decision to be called in by the Secretary Of State for the Environment because of the way the matter was handled by Brentwood Borough Council's administration. The key concerns are that: 1) The Council only went out to tender with one developer when there would normally be three. 2) There was no Borough wide public consultation undertaken on the application 3) There has been no Environmental Impact Assessment undertaken on the site. Cllr David Kendall and Cllr Barry Aspinell have asked, given the number of Brentwood residents that are unhappy with the decision, for Mr Pickles' support to ask for the decision to be called in for an inquiry.
